What a dreary day it was when I arrived at Redwood, New York. However,
I was delighted to see Hitty Margaret was back from her vacation at the
Theresa Library. We spent the day catching up on all the plans for the
coming week. My hosts here in Redwood are Viola and Jan. Viola reminds
me of Miss Pinch. She is equally skillful with the needle and thread,
fashioning quilts for children in need.
The ladies in this little farming town all wear trousers. That attire
is so different than it was when I lived with the Preble family. They
seem very comfortable in them.
The grass is green. I heard Jan say she wanted to take pictures for my
album, if it ever stopped raining.

The week has been hectic, with tea parties with Hitty Maggie and going
shopping. We spent a lot of time talking and watching the birds. It
gave me the shudders every time a big crow came to the bird feeder.
Tonight I went to a multi-cultural fair with my hosts. The first sight
to greet me was a bonnie Scottish lad playing bagpipes. He was dressed
in a kilt, etc. and played the most heavenly bagpipe music, while marching.
I saw an Egyptian dance performed. The dancer clicked her castanets
and gave naughty glances over her shoulder, while she kept time to the
music with the lower half of her body. My favorite part was a jazz combo
from a nearby army camp, Fort Drum. The music was a big change from
Adelina Patti, but it was a fun-filled evening. There was a group of
young people who danced a Ukranian dance and a mom and daughter who
danced a Mexican dance. I feel like I am sailing all around the world
again.
And I met a sea captain on this trip, Captain Mark. He had the misfortune
to be cast adrift on the St. Lawrence River in a pleasure boat. He was
rescued by the coast guard and given a warm blanket because he had been
exposed to sleet, hail, and dampness for two hours.

Tomorrow I continue my journey to Paula in Florida. I have had a wonderful
time in Northern New York State. I wonder if Paula lives in the city
or a rural place, like Redwood?
Today we went on an outing and took pictures of Boldts Castle, the St.
Lawrence River, and the Thousand Island Bridge to Canda. Hitty Maggie
and Hitty Margaret went with us. I loved having Anne play with us and
take pictures of us, with the flowers and so on. I am going to finish
packing tonight. It brings tears to my eyes to say goodbye to Jans
Granddaughter, Anne and everyone else but Im excited about going
to Florida to be with Paula.
