Notes from Hitty Annie Sullivan

Hello all my friends,

Today was another busy day in New York, unfortunately, we didn't get any pictures!!! I am very sorry about that. The digital camera (or was it the operator?) had a malfunction. I will tell you about the day anyway.

Today I got to go to the high school and see where Holly works. It was a very nice building, built in 1970. Holly says we'll try the picture thing again tomorrow. I saw the main office where the Principal and Dean of Students are, as well as Holly and her co-worker. Holly gave me a tour of the whole building. They house about 350 students in grades 9-12...not a very big school. Let me tell you though, it was MUCH bigger than any school I ever taught in back in my early days of teaching!!!

I got to see the gym and auditorium but my favorite stop was the Library. We chatted with the Librarian, I told her the story of Hitty and she is thinking about acquiring a copy of the book for the school. I loved looking at all the books and such. Overall it was a very fun, but busy day.

When we got home from school, we put on Kande's arms (The Hitty formally known as "Naked"). I hope we did a good job! Tomorrow we are attaching legs and then I have to get packed up to move on to another location. It has been a very nice time here. I've enjoyed meeting and working with Kande.

I hope everyone is doing well!

Hello friends,

There is good news in Spencer today. During the Spencer Picnic there were several raffles. Holly won a quilter's basket! She says she never wins anything, I must have brought her good luck. We've posted a picture of me helping to open the basket in the August files.

We have spent some time working on Naked Hitty. I think that it was Sue in Maine who suggested that we ask her what she wants her name to be. So far, she won't tell. She said that she liked the name Bianca but wasn't sure it fit her. I thought she'd tell me secretly but she wants to think about it for a while longer. I've posted a picture of me helping to paint her hair.

I was busy today while Holly was at work. You see, Naked Hitty is scheduled to go to quilt camp this September and she needed a nightie for the overnight trip. So, while Holly was working, I surprised her by making Naked Hitty and nightie. It took a few minutes for me to get used to Holly's machine but I was able to make the nightie and I do think it turned out pretty well. Of course, I've posted the picture.

There are only a few days left until I go to my next destination. I am enjoying my travels.

Of course, it is starting to rain here in New York yet again!!!

Love, Hitty Anne Sullivan

The magic tones that send the hounds to barking and my heart to thumpin' sounded throughout the house this afternoon. Crouched at the sewing
machine, I allowed the young man of the house to answer the bell. He walked into the living room with a big grin on his face. "Oooo, is it for me?", I
asked, always hopeful for Hitty company. Indeed it was! Well, mine for a short while - a happy while.

I suspect Hitty Annie Sullivan was surprised by the first face she saw peering into her trunk. I think she probably expected a gaggle of Hitties
or, at least, a cheery Hitty-Mum. Instead, the face of an 18-year-old boy; probably relieved by the opportunity to forget about homework for a few
minutes. After he had inspected HAS and her belongings, in a worthy fashion, of course, he relinquished her to my care, and off we went into the
sewing room.

Ever ready to assist, Hitty Annie Sullivan helped me finish sewing a pocketed knife roll for my husband. I'm sure she understood how important a
task it was: this roll will be home to the many knives that will carve her future wooden sisters and companions. I thought I heard her murmur, as she
gazed around the sewing room, that, "Fiber addiction seems to be a common *thread* among my Travel Hosts."

She appears to have has a lovely time with Kat and had an opportunity to visit with another Hitty-Mum and her girls. Hitty Annie Sullivan is
spending quite a while here in the South. We'll continue to show her the finest of Southern hospitality. I'm sure she'll have lots to speak of,
after she catches her breath and settles in.

Dear Hitty Friends,

Greetings this afternoon from your traveler, Hitty Annie Sullivan!

At the lake yesterday, Hitty Jellicakes and I spirited a fresh hankie out of the pocket of my Travel Host and made ready to have a picnic. The breeze was quite stiff. We had such a time subduing the handkerchief, that I failed to notice that some of my companions had wandered off. I spottedlittle Hitty Dixee, with her nose buried in some lovely blossoms - but where had Laurel and Hitty Palestine gotten to? I gathered up my skirts and began a trek around the shoreline. A flash of purple against the green of the grass so close to the blue water caused me to make greater haste.

There was Laurel, clasping a sprig of berries to her bosom and on the verge of launching herself in an un-seaworthy craft into the lake! I stopped her
progress just in time and admonished her thoroughly. This foolhardy adventurousness comes from indulging in too much reading of romantic
twaddle! While I completely endorse a fine imagination and am not adverse to romance, if one wishes for adventure, one should read the proper,
preparatory material. For instance, the sign posted by the shore....

Yours breathlessly,

Hitty Annie Sullivan

Good evening to all from Hitty Annie Sullivan!

When last I wrote, I had just finished relating the tale of Laurel's foolish attempt to play the part of "The Lily Maid". After she realized the danger
she had put herself into, she collapsed into another fit of dramatics by the shore of the lake. Weary of the histrionics, I place my hat on my head and
went in search of Hitty Palestine. I supposed she had taken it into her head to inspect the local flora - she is no doubt wise enough to avoid the
resident fauna. Calling H. Jellicakes and H. Dixee to assist in the search, I started into the forest. The breeze blowing through the trees caused the
forest floor to appear as an uneasy puzzle of sunshine and shadow. We hiked up a small hill toward an enormous tree and there, looming before us, was a
mysterious cavern. Surrounded by the gray lichen that dripped from the branches overhead, it appeared dark and foreboding, yet drew us three
irresistibly. H. Jellicakes cautioned us to proceed silently, but dear little Dixee, scrambling upwards, broke the breathless quiet with a loud
crack as she stepped onto a twig...

.....We approached the base of the tree and from the depths of the hollow, an eerie groan issued. Starting out of the cave was a ghostly form, hung
about with the forest mosses. Poor Dixee! She fainted away, while Jellicakes, her pegs like jelly, began to topple over with fear. And I, even I, dear
friends, was so frightened, my hat flew off my head!

And who was this dreadful apparition (to borrow a phrase from Mr. Dickens...)? None other than Hitty Palestine! Who could have believed
that such a composed and genteel Hitty could get up to such a prank?

Yours, with a fluttering heart,

Hitty Annie Sullivan

Dear Friends and Sister,

Saturday morning dawned with clouds and rain - I could see my Travel Hosts were in sympathy with the gloomy weather and I knew why. This was the day I
would leave them and embark on a new adventure in Texas. I was all a-tingle with anticipation, ready to jump onto the mail coach, when my Host suggested
one last adventure in her little town of Enterprise. I giggled when she explained where we were going, but was really intrigued when she suggested I
might enjoy participating in a tribute to "The Land of Cotton". Dressing me a lovely frock and providing me with appropriate company, we drove
"downtown" to visit the only monument in the world dedicated to an agricultural pest.

Yours from Alabama,

Hitty Annie Sullivan

Good Morning Hitty friends,
I have arrived in Texas and weary of my travel. I heard some excitement outside the "mail coach" . Soon I was surrounded by some cheerful guests welcoming me into their home. I caught a glimpse of black and white but with all the greetings I didn't give it another thought.
After all the settling, Hitty Rachel and I went to her home for some quiet and relaxing time. She introduced me to Kermit but I was not going to pick it up but did admired him. We then had a cup of hot tea and off to bed I went. Hitty Rachel read to me and I last heard....snake charmer.

Hello Hittygirls,

We just returned from an exciting trip to North Carolina. Ms. Sue is pretty tired right now and has a housefull of laundry she is trying to do so she can get her kitchen in order for Thanksgiving tomorrow. She said us Hitty's could sign on quickly and send a breif note about our trip.

1. Five of us Hitty's left Ms. Sue's office last Wednesday we stopped in Freeport, Maine to do some shopping and spent the night at Ms. Sue's son's in Saco, Maine.

2. Thursday morning we boarded a plan in Portland, Maine enroute to Charlotte, North Carolina. We arrived on time and Ms. Sue's niece picked up Ms. Sue and her son Jason at the airport. Ms. Sue's neice (Tammy) thought we were adorable but her 4 year old son wasn't too impressed.

3. Friday we went shoping at PJ's Minatures in Indian Trail, NC. Ms. Sue purchased a tiny wooden Hitty type doll and a few other items for the Maine Hitty's.

4. Saturday we hiked in the Mounains at Chimney Rock which is near Lure Lake. That was very exciting. We stopped at a roadside stand and purchased fresh Molasses, it was vey tasty on homemade biscuits.

5. Sunday we went shopping and purchase supplies for the Hitty card and stocking swap. We also went out to dinner at Tammy's Church.

6. Monday we did some more shopping and decorated Tammy's house for Christmas. In the evening we went to Tanglewood to see the Holiday light display. It was very exciting to see all of the different light displays. Our favorite was the lit Nativity.

7. Tuesday we traveled by plane home. Our plane from Charlotte to Atlanta was delayed and by the time we arrived at Atlanta and got off of the plane we had about 10 minutes to get across A concourse to B concourse. Our plane was scheduled to leave at 2:05 and we boarded at 2:01 as we were getting seated we watched our luggage and boxes get put on the plane. Ms. Sue and us Hitty's were very scared we would miss our connecting flight but luckily we made it just in time. We arrived in Portland and stayed the night at Sue's daughter's apartment.

8. This morning we went for an early morning walk in Portland and then drove back to Ms. Sue's house. We've been unpacking and doing laundry and sorting holiday decorations most of the afternoon.

It was a fun trip and we have pictures but they are still on Tammy's camera in NC. Tammy said she would put them on CD and send them along later. There is one of us in the mountains that we will put in the Hittygirls folder.

That's all for now. I'm having a great time with the Hitty's in Maine.

I would like to let everyone know that this Thanksgiving I am Thankful to Ms. Julie for giving me the opportunity to enjoy these
adventures.

Happy Thanksgiving.
