Hi Everyone,
Preparations for the Leavenworth, WA Hitty Gathering on July 14th and 15th of 2006 are well under way. Because Leavenworth is a little Bavarian town, nestled in the Cascade Mountains, the theme for the Gathering will be “Hitty’s Bavarian Holiday”. Janet Cordell has graciously agreed to make our Limited Edition Event Hitty, which will be a beautiful Hitty shoulder head, completely hand carved and painted by Janet, especially for our event. She will come on a jointed cloth body, be dressed in a little German Dirndl and will come with lots of German accessories, including a chicken hat, so she will be all ready to do the chicken dance.

At this time, the event registration is limited to 75 full registrations. Cost is $250.00 and will include the following:

Event Hitty, made by Janet Cordell, and dressed in German Dirndl
Lots of German Accessories to go with the Event Hitty
2 authentic German Dinner meals, including the Banquet
Admission to the Nutcracker Museum
Plus lots of other goodies

There will be a little German Boy companion doll, also carved by Janet, available for sale, for $150.00. He will also be dressed in German clothes and will be numbered consecutively with the Hitty’s, so you can have a matching numbered boy to go with your Hitty. These can be pre-ordered and prepaid with your registration or purchased at the Event. These will be a limited edition of 75.

There will also be partial registrations available for $50.00 each for family members who want to attend the 2 meals, but don’t want the Event Hitty and all of the things that come with her. You can find out more about Leavenworth by going to their Chamber of Commerce web site.

Because of the short amount of planning time we have for this event, there can be no refunds if you can’t come. We will mail you your Event Hitty and accessories, after the Gathering is over, but we cannot refund your money. The deadline for having your registration and money in is January 15th, but I would appreciate it if you would let me know if you are planning to come and how many will be in your party, as soon as possible, for planning purposes.

Our banquet will be held in the beautiful Enzian Inn and we have reserved a block of 20 double occupancy rooms there for you to stay in. The rooms range from $115.00 to $120.00 per night, plus tax. The Enzian is right in the heart of down town Leavenworth, so everything is within walking distance. They also have luxury rooms that range from $165.00 to $205.00 a night, plus tax. Their web site is www.enzianinn.com and their phone number is 1-800-223-8511. They also own another motel that is about 3 blocks from down town. It is called the Alpine River Inn and is a little less expensive. Their rooms range from $89.00 to $120.00 a night, plus tax and we have reserved a block of 27 rooms there. They have kitchenettes and allow pets. Their web site is http://www.alpineriversinn.com and their phone number is 1-800-873-3960. We are asking that you use these two hotels because if you do, they will allow us to use their banquet room with no charge. Otherwise, we have to pay $350.00 to use it and the cost of the event packet will be higher to cover the extra cost. When you call to make your motel reservations, be sure to tell them that it is for the “Hittygirls Group”, so we will get credit towards our banquet room. Because of the Leavenworth Summer Theater Programs, the hotels usually fill up very rapidly, sometimes a year in advance, so I suggest that you make your reservations as quickly as possible.

Our schedule of events is as follows:
July 14th – 5:00 – 7:00PM Meet at King Ludwig’s Restaurant for an authentic German Family Style Dinner
7:00 – 10:00 PM Go to see Sound of Music
July 15th - Most of the day free to shop, sight see, and visit the Nutcracker Museum
6:00 – 9:00 PM Hitty Banquet at Enzian Inn

We are also incorporating the live stage performance of Sound of Music into the festivities, but the play tickets will be extra, over and above the convention registration price. The Sound of Music tickets go on sale for groups in February. Individual tickets do not go on sale until June, and they sell out very quickly. It would be best if we bought all or our play tickets as a group, in February. That way, we are assured of getting them and we can all sit together. The tickets are $20.00 a person and are non-refundable. You will need to send the play ticket money in with your registration money, no later than January 15th, 2006. That way, I can get all of the play tickets in February, before they sell out. There are a lot of tour groups that buy their tickets at this time also, so the sooner we get our seats reserved the better. If you have other family members who want to go to the Sound of Music, it is $20.00 each, for however many that want to go.

This promises to be an event to remember, and I hope that you will be able to join us. I have included a registration form that you can fill out and send in with your payment. Please remember that all registrations and money must be mailed to me, (Margie Schaber, 8151 Icicle Road, Leavenworth, WA. 98826), no later than January 15, 2006 and that there are no refunds, do to the short amount of time we have to plan this event and the financial commitments we have to make. Transportation Information For Hitty’s Bavarian Holiday Gathering
In Leavenworth Washington July 14 and 15, 2006

There are lots of options to get to Leavenworth, depending on where you are coming from.

If you are flying into Seattle, your options are:

1. Rent a Car and drive about 2 ½-3 hrs. east on Highway 2 to Leavenworth. The mountain scenery is beautiful, and once you get on Highway 2, it is a straight shot into Leavenworth, with no road changes.

2. Catch the city bus from the Seattle Airport to the downtown Seattle Trailways Bus Depot and ride over with them. They go right through Leavenworth on their way to Wenatchee and will let you off right in Leavenworth if you ask them to. Both of the hotels we have reserved rooms at are right on Highway 2. The Enzian Inn is more in the middle of town, at the intersection of Highway 2 and Ski Hill Drive and the Alpine River Inn is on the east side of town, just before you cross the bridge, at the corner of Highway 2 and Alpensee Strasse.

3. There is a shuttle flight from Seattle to Pangborn Airport in East Wenatchee, on Horizon Airlines, which is part of Alaska Airlines. If you are flying on Alaska from where you live, they can book you straight through to East Wenatchee. Once you are there, Leavenworth is about 30 miles west on Highway 2. You can:
a. Rent a Car at the airport and drive
b. You can take a taxi, either all the way to Leavenworth for about $55.00, or just to the Link City Bus Station in Wenatchee for about $10.00, where you can catch the Link City Bus to Leavenworth for $1.00 per person. The Link City Bus does not run on Sunday, so if you plan to leave on that day, you would need to take a taxi all the way to the airport. If you find someone who is leaving at the same time you are, you might want to share a taxi, to save a little money.

The number for the Cab Co. is A Cab-N-Courier---509-886-4222. The cab company said that if you know what time your flight is coming in, it would help them if you would call ahead and let them know, so they can be sure to have a taxi waiting for you. The same applies for the day you are leaving.
