Patty Reed’s Doll
Chapter Four, Chapter Five, Chapter Six
Ooops
- scrambling to catch up!
Chapter five does include my favorite line in the entire book.
When Patty talks about sharing her delicious, just picked strawberries
with her
doll.
Her doll responds with "I could not tell her, but I think she knew I
lived
on love, not mortal food."
Awwww.
I was
thinking the same thing, this
is no picnic and they were going to find out just how much it differs
from one
soon ...
After
reading the Donner story from
an adult view, and reading this one, I can see where Dolly might think
it more
of a picnic version.. Still, even though the adventure of the
wilderness surely
had some days/moments of beauty and laughter, I imagine the majority
were hard
on the physical being, and mentally straining on the people.. I have
never had
this type of adventure, but we live near the Great Pee Dee River (less
than a
mile thru the woods), and it has some wild terraine around it.. Mostly
now all
is privately owned, but have been on hiking and boating ventures that
made you
glad to be back home in the comfort of your favorite chair/bed..
I can
imagine from my small one day
adventures, just what it might have been to be out there for months,
and ever
changing.. Wow.. I am glad those days are behind us.. We can jump in a
car,
truck, train, plane, and go in comfort..
I do
have a neighbor who makes real
wood wagons and rides locally with his horses pulling them.. He is very
talented, but to see these wagons, I can't imagine traveling thru
rugged
country in one..
No
picnic for sure, but I reckon
some days had to be better than others, so can see where picnic might
have come
into thought...
Back in 1976 a group of people traveled East in covered wagons just like the one the pioneers used to travel West . i got to see inside the wagons. I was amazed at the small size of these wagons and impressed at our ancestors courage. It was no picnic indeed .
Have
you seen this cute wagon for Hitty? I'd love to have something
like this,
but I'm totally out of room for more large items. But isn't this
adorable? Someone will be a lucky owner. Happyhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/261003877719?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
I was
reading about
"The
Party" out on their
jouney, I can just hear Dolly saying It sure was nice back
in
the white house in
Illinois-Wonder why we left?
